This map shows demographic vulnerability in Nordic-Baltic regions based on the indicator age-group 65 years and over. Under this indicator, regions are deemed to be vulnerable when the percentage of the population aged 65 years and over is more than 20.30%. In the majority of regions in Finland and Sweden the share of population in this age group is above this threshold. The aging population is therefore of most concern in these two countries. The Baltic countries are in a somewhat better situation. The municipalities with the smallest shares of their population in this age group can be observed mainly in Norway, the capital areas and some dynamic, growing city-regions.

Age group 65 years and over is one of 10 indicators used to measure demographic vulnerability in the Nordic-Baltic Region. The map “Nordic-Baltic Demographic Vulnerabilities”, takes in all 10 indicators to provide an overall picture of demographic vulnerabilities at the regional level.
