– Arctic Tourism in Times of Change

This project is grown out of the University of the Arctic´s Thematic Network on Northern Tourism, a circumpolar Master Program in Arctic Tourism.

This network has identified a need to concentrate resources on:

a) seasonality of Arctic Tourism
b) urban tourism in the Arctic and
c) excessive tourism in the Arctic areas.

These they consider as core issues closely linked to the recent rapid growth of tourism in Northern and Arctic areas. The main aim of the project is addressing a the issue of balanced growth and enabling and securing sustainable tourism development in the region. It encompasses developing a framework of knowledge sharing, a workshop to fuel further research activities and teaching materials, as well as collaboration models for universities involved and the tourism industry. Output will be reports and visual data for disseminating regionally and locally.
